My good friend, Rob Saffer, has gotten involved in civics education at the local level in Woodstock, NY.

He and his colleagues have launched a townhall (& FB livestream) of a local government civics program — how to engage at the grassroots level.

Listen in Thursday nights, 7 pm ET, from March 31, here.

Civics Teach-In 2022: Additional Info and Full Schedule

When it comes to civics, most of what we encounter is national; we know much less about local civics or how to get involved. Civics Teach-In 2022 plans to bridge that gap with a series of presentations to be held at the Woodstock Community Center. Each Thursday night at 7pm from March 31 through May 5, the public is invited free of charge to a 90-minute, non-partisan session with town, county, state, and federal officials. Q &A will follow each presentation. Video recordings will be available on YouTube and other platforms. We encourage you to attend in person, to be able to ask questions, but the events will also be live-streamed on Facebook.

The six-part series aims to educate voters regardless of political affiliation about local government and its leadership. This series offers voters opportunities to get engaged in the democratic process. A collaboration between local citizens and members of the Woodstock Democratic Committee, Civics Teach-In 2022 will showcase how government benefits the Ulster County residents and how elected officials approach the responsibilities of serving in office. The focus on the diverse municipal, state, and federal government agencies will demonstrate how much government matters to the day-to-day activities of citizens’ lives. Beyond the usual stump speeches, these sessions provide the audience insights into how government operates at the local, county, state and federal levels.
